Forensic Anthropology and Archaeology in Denmark

Abstract In this paper, we provide a brief overview of the status forensic anthropology and archeology in Denmark, as well related information about education, research, skeletal collections. Forensic anthropologists mainly deal with examination unidentified remains. Some special tasks include cranial trauma analysis recently deceased, advanced 3D visualization from CT scanning homicide cases, stature estimation perpetrators using surveillance videos. are employed at one Denmark’s three departments medicine (in Copenhagen, Odense, Aarhus) have access to imaging equipment (e.g., MR scanning, surface scanners, printers) for use both their requisitioned work research. Extensive research is conducted on different topics, such health diseases past populations, age estimation, human morphology. Research based material archeological collections housed Copenhagen Odense or data deceased. There no full degree but elective courses lectures offered students levels people professional backgrounds. archaeology relatively new field expertise relevant cases rare, only two per year. No archeologists officially any medicine. Until recently, Special Crime Unit police handled crime scene investigations involving excavations, option enlisting help outside specialists, archaeologists, anthropologists, pathologists. An official excavation group was established 2015 under lead aim refining methods procedures used criminal investigations. The represented by five officers Scene Unit, officer National Police Dog Training center, archaeologists Moesgaard Museum, anthropologist Department Medicine (University Copenhagen), pathologist Aarhus).
